Google is launching an enhanced screenshot editor for Pixel phones, now integrated with Pixel Studio. This upgraded tool combines AI-assisted edits, smarter markup, and expanded text and sticker options within the familiar post-screenshot workflow, turning ordinary captures into versatile canvases for quick, polished sharing.
Opening a screenshot and tapping Edit brings users to a sleek, modern interface in Pixel Studio. It features updated Material Design styles, clear tool labels, and a streamlined toolbar. The primary functions—crop, markup, text, AI edit, sticker, and AI erase—are tailored for screenshot-specific needs like annotations, fast redactions, and social sharing. Notably, the editor supports object selection with generative fill or removal, allowing users to select an element and apply natural language commands such as “remove the top banner” or “blur the address.” Manual tools remain for detailed control.
The markup tool is significantly improved, offering an enhanced color picker, consistent highlighter behavior, and increased font choices. Stickers can be created from doodles or shapes using Pixel Studio’s creation tools, perfect for tutorials, support tasks, or social media. The new editor is rolling out gradually, appearing on Pixels with the latest stable system build and Pixel Studio app update. Some variability may occur due to staged server-side releases.
AI features in the editor, still designated as preview, work best on simple UI elements but may struggle with complex textures or low contrast areas. Certain edits run on-device, while more intensive ones may require network access. For privacy and reliability, users are advised to use manual markup or blur tools when handling sensitive information rather than relying solely on AI removal.
This update streamlines the screenshot editing and sharing process on Pixel phones, eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps. It reflects Google’s broader approach of embedding AI-powered assistance into daily tasks to make them effortless. Pixel Studio’s new screenshot editor can be accessed by updating system software and the Pixel Studio app, then editing a screenshot to reveal the AI and sticker tools if available.
